A huge part of this amazing itinerary is the specially organised helicopter tour of the Everest region. While other operators might offer a 10 minute sighteeing flight in a large fixed wing aircraft, we have gone above and beyond. We’re working with the safest operators in Nepal and have secured almost all of their helicopters for what will be a once in a lifetime experience.
Mt Everest Helicopter Tour
Starting from Kathmandu Airport (1,345m), you will fly by helicopter for around 30 minutes to Lukla (2,840m).
After a short stop in Lukla, you will fly past some of the highest mountains in the world, flying over Everest Base Camp (5,364m) and across the front of Mt Everest itself (8,848m) before descending to Pheriche (4,240m). This flight takes around 5-10 minutes.
Pheriche will be the marshelling point for the flight to Kala Patthar (5,545m) which will be done with only 2 or 3 people in each helicopter – meaning you’ll all have window seats. The journey each way lasts around 5 minutes but more importantly we’ve secured landing rights at Kala Patthar, allowing each each helicopter to be on the ground for around 5 minutes. At such a high altitude, you might find breathing difficult so we’ll have staff on hand to administer oxygen if needed.
You return to Pheriche and then continue by helicopter for another 7-10 minutes landing at Everest View Hotel for breakfast and the most amazing uninterrupted views of Everest and the surrounding peaks.
Following breakfast, you will again board the helicopters, starting with a flight back to Lukla for refueling – this flights lasts between 5-7 mminutes. You’ll then head towards Kathmandu – flying for a further 30 minutes. The excitement doesn’t end here though, as the helicopters quickly touch down in Kathmandu for 10 minutes before another 30 minute flight to Chitwan National Park.
The tour ends with the helicopters landing at our jungle lodge.
